About Avenir Life Midwifery

Hi I’m Tarlia, Avenir Life’s General manager and co-owner. I have a bachelor of nursing and a masters of midwifery and have worked across all areas of midwifery including Antenatal, birthing, continuity of care, postnatal and in home visiting. I am so passionate about my job and will take any opportunity to share my knowledge with any pregnant women and new mummas I meet. I am a childbirth educator and have a passion for teaching families and also mentoring midwifery students to help them grow into the best midwife they can be. I believe that educating and empowering women is the most important thing during the motherhood journey and that community is imperative to a positive experience. My Goal with Avenir Life is to build a holistic collaborative model of care that will provide women and their families with an exceptional pregnancy and postpartum experience.

I am a mother to three beautiful children, Ava, Raphael and Sophia and I enjoy spending time travelling around Australia with my husband and kids in our caravan, exploring and making memories.

Hi I’m Jacinta and I am an endorsed private midwife in the Avenir life team. My passion for midwifery started after the birth of my first daughter. I had a beautiful midwife who supported me to have a natural, undisturbed birth and I still remember her to this day. I have always trusted women’s abilities to birth their babies, but it wasn’t until I had my second daughter at home that I was truly awakened to the power of birthing women. I have a deep awareness of the importance of nurturing and nourishing postpartum women and I love educating and supporting them on how to prepare for this period.

Aside from my deep passion for midwifery, I am very passionate about living life to the fullest. I am conscious about being present when I am with friends and family and I live each day with gratitude. I love a good adventure, a good sunset and a good belly laugh. My star sign is Sagittarius (which makes me hilarious and quite lovable according to most astrology websites).

I am excited to be a part of the Avenir Life team because I believe all women should have access to individualised continuity of care and be supported in their decision making which is what they will get here.

Hi I’m Taan and I am a Norfolk Islander woman, mother, midwife, and 'vibe' enthusiast. I believe psychological safety is just as important as physical safety during your pregnancy, birth, and parenting transitions. I value building respectful relationships with clients based on trust and honest sharing of information. I became a midwife to support families to thrive, to support women to step into their power, and to be humbled every day by the strength and grace of the process. 

My background is living remotely with little readily-available resources. This has led to being comfortable using intuition and invention to trouble-shoot my way through life and work. 

I left my island with my son in tow to begin my career in midwifery. Graduating in 2016, I have been lucky to work as a midwife in a continuity of care birth centre, hospital care (antenatal, assessment, birth, postnatal, home care, special care nursery), supporting homebirth, retrieval medivacs, and a volunteer in low resource areas overseas. 

I try to embody 'Dancing like the maiden, Loving like the mother, Thinking like the Crone'.

Hi I’m Tamika and I am a mother to two beautiful girls and have been a Registered Nurse/Midwife for 18 years and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant for 13 years. Midwifery isn’t a profession to me … a midwife is who I am in all aspects of life. Whilst I have had experience working in varying different aspects of midwifery, after experiencing my own home birth my heart has always yearned to practice in a continuity of care - midwifery led practice in a team whose values align so that I can truly be ‘with women’. While raising my babies I haven’t had the opportunity to be on call but I am now at a stage where I can make that commitment. I am extremely passionate about everything pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding and beyond and feel so very blessed to have been given this opportunity to be part of the team at Avenir Life

Hi I’m Deb. I am a Registered Nurse and Midwife and mum to three. I have 27 years experience in nursing and midwifery. Becoming a nurse was my goal since I was a child. I trained as an Enrolled Nurse in 1996 and went on to complete my bachelor degree to become a Registered Nurse in 2007. The powerful desire to become a midwife emerged during my second pregnancy. I followed my heart and completed a postgraduate diploma in midwifery in 2014. I have spent my midwifery career working in Tertiary Hospitals. This has given me great experience in all levels of complexity of pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period. It has also stoked my passion for working in a model of midwifery care that provides more personalised and holistic services to women and their families. I love working in partnership with women during this sacred time in their lives. I strongly believe all women have the right to make informed choices surrounding their pregnancy and birth. I am passionate about empowering women and advocating for them so their choices are respected.
